Road status

We do our best to provide live and accurate updates on the condition of the road. At times we may close the road with little to no notice so it is important that you plan an alternate route.

For more accurate updates please like and follow us on our Facebook page.

The Rainbow Road is impassable due to a large slip that has caused the road to fall down into the river just past Connors Creek.

We will not be allowing any Off Season Access.

Rainbow Road is officially closed until the 26th of December 2019.

Molesworth Station 23 April 2019: Clarence Valley Road closed from 8 May 2019 for at least four weeks. Hurunui District Council are closing Clarence Valley Road from Hanmer Springs over Jacks Pass to Tophouse Road to the public for major slip repairs. This affects access to St James Conservation Area and Lake Tennyson for all vehicles, cyclists, horse riders and walkers. The alternate route over Jollies Pass to join Tophouse Road is not recommended as it's not maintained and is in poor condition. It crosses a stream and is only suitable for high clearance 4WD vehicles. For further updates see the Hurunui District Council website

Connors Creek Hut is closed for the foreseeable future. The hut has been found to be structurally unsafe. For more information click here.

Conditions change frequently so please check this site for updates. Click here for the latest weather forecast. Please always remember to exercise extreme caution when travelling on the road as it is a multi-hazard area including livestock (cattle, sheep) grazing on and around the road, particularly tight bends around the river, and weather conditions that can change quickly. Please allow sufficient time for your journey and be aware of the risks at all times.
